Melbourne is a city that is built to cater to eaters and drinkers; art enthusiasts and live mu-sic fans. If you want amazing live music, all-round good-time dive bars, or just great little places to stop and grab a coffee and a toastie, it’s all here. You can pick up handmade items at Rose Street Market on the weekend; eat at Grub Food Van, where food and drinks are served out of an old camper van; or go for a drink at Marquis of Lorne – a beautiful three-level pub that has a bar, cosy restaurant, and a rooftop area with an old bathtub filled with ice and tinnies [canned drinks] – ready to go!
Must do: Head to Outré Gallery – which specialises in contempo-rary, lowbrow and underground art, with new exhibitions every few months.
Must eat: South of Johnston serves delicious breakfasts and lunches. They locally source many of their ingredients, and have some really cool art that changes every few months. The owner’s beautiful blue Staffy is very friendly and likes hugs!
Must drink: The Rooks Return is a comfy little bar that has amazing live music most nights of the week, and board games to pass the time.
