It’s like happy hour on screen. World Class Bartender of the Year is all about contestants, judges, laughter, tears, adrenaline, edge-of-the-seat action, a ticking clock, nail-biting suspense and world-class flavours – in fact, everything you love about MasterChef – except, it all happens in a bar.

Now on its 8th successful year, it is the world's biggest Bartender Reality show - an annual celebration of the art and craft of bartending. The 2015 World Class Competition took place in South Africa. 54 of the world's best bartenders competed in a series of grueling challenges for the ultimate title: The World's Best Bartender.

Judged by bartending luminaries, the 2015 panel included Spike Marchant - a cocktail guru with over 20 years of experience in the cocktail industry, Cocktail icon Julie Reiner - co-owner and beverage director of the Flatiron Lounge in New York, and finally, Charles Joly - one of the most respected bartenders in the field with over 2 decades of bartending under his belt.

World Class is the annual competition hosted by Diageo Reserve to find the world’s best bartender. The search for fine drinking experiences and cocktail culture are at the heart of World Class, alongside a passion for discovering the next generation of bartending talent and the latest trends in mixology.
The exciting challenges include ‘Against the Clock’ where the bartenders have to make 10 different cocktails in under 10 minutes. It’s a challenge that tests speed and efficiency without compromising quality. Another interesting challenge is the ‘Street Food Challenge,’ where the bartenders have to invent cocktails to pair with all kinds of interesting and adventurous street food.
Finally, after multiple grueling challenges with plenty of twists and turns and eliminations the winners are announced in a spectacular gala event.
