There are very few events in life that really show you who your closest friends are. Of all your milestones, the people who stand beside you when you marry, and the people who prop you up when a loved one is lost — those are your real friends.
For decades, since the super-successful sitcom ‘Friends’ first made waves in 1994, we’ve heard stories about the legendary ‘asli yaari’ between Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox. From movie dates and shopping trips, to holidaying together in Mexico, these gorgeous girls have enjoyed it all. Besides, Jennifer plays godmother to Courteney’s daughter and it was in Jen’s home that Johnny McDaid proposed to Cox in 2014. If that wasn’t enough, the duo have also been the best of friends through shared fame fallouts and two messy break-ups (with Courteney supporting Jen when her marriage to Brad Pitt ended and Jen doing the same when Courteney split up with David Arquette).
Yet, over the past few years, stories have surfaced about this friendship fizzling out. When Courteney wasn’t seen at Jen’s engagement party in 2012, the rumour mills began to churn. If Jen didn’t attend any of Courteney’s parties, people bandied it about as the ultimate diss. And so it went on, until the ‘Friends’ stars silenced naysayers earlier this week.
On August 5, as Jen walked down the aisle while Justin Theroux waited for his beautiful bride, it was Courtney who played maid of honour. With the secret ceremony in Jen’s Bel Air home continuing well into the wee hours, it was Courteney who stayed until the last guests had left. If there was any doubt before, let’s just say that there’s no question now — as of this moment, this enduring ‘asli yaari’ is definitely stronger than ever!
