All those who watched the World Cup telecast breathlessly on Sunday night will certainly remember the stunning visual of Christ the Redeemer, framed by a spectacular Rio sunset. Now Amitabh Bachchan has given fans another memorable image of Brazil’s reigning deity: as Germany and Argentina geared up for a fierce football match, Bachchan Sr. stopped to snap up Cristo Redentor in all His glory.
In the foreground of one image stands Mr. Bachchan himself, arms out wide, mirroring the iconic statue. In another, the veteran actor holds a World Cup aloft, saying to his Twitter followers: “I won the World Cup 2014!!!... So help me Christ…”. Clad in a sporty track suit, with a fine (possibly Toosh) shawl draped around his neck, the legend looks much like any other tourist - except none can hope to score as many retweets or get as many responses to similar picture posts!
Having landed in Rio on July 10, with his grandson and Abhishek Bachchan in tow, Bachchan Sr. appears to have made time to absorb Brazil’s breath-taking sights and sounds, before attending Sunday’s riveting World Cup fixture in person. Though the Twitterverse received no posts from the Bachchan boys’ day out at Copacabana Beach, we have to say Amitabh’s rendezvous with The Redeemer proved to be quite a post. After all, it’s the first time we have ever seen the statuesque Big B ever dwarfed by anyone else!
