As  the EPL matches  get underway in the coming weeks, we list some of the best sports bars in Mumbai to watch the games

It’s that time of the year when fans are preparing to step out of their self-imposed  summer hibernation and gear up for an exciting new season of  European football, which gets underway in early August.  Meanwhile, clubs from the most watched competition, the EPL, have gone full throttle with their spending in the transfer window. Manchester United made a blockbuster deal for Everton striker RomeluLukaku while Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata for more than £50 million.

Even in Spain, AS Monaco’s KylianMbappe is the subject of a reported world-record deal with Real Madrid while Barcelona is worried about losing  Neymar to Paris St Germain for an even bigger deal.

All this activity has only raised the excitement levels for the new season to kick-off. The EPL matches open with Arsenal facing Leicester City in the curtain-raiser on August 12.  La Liga gets underway in the following week with Real Madrid beginning their title challenge away at Deportivo La Coruna while Barcalineup against Real Betis.

So if you’re as psyched as we are for the 2017/18 season and live in Mumbai, LiveInStyle brings you, the some of the best sports bars in the city you need to check out on weekends of EPL matches in Mumbai. You might even run into us at one of these.

Irish House, Lower Parel

There’s only one possible explanation for football fans not to have visited this place – you’ve just arrived in the city and are yet to explore the best outlets in town. For the regulars, the super cool European vibe has had them smitten over the years. An enormous projector screen and many  LEDs orbiting the joint, along with its 1+1 offers and a Football Pub Quiz, have people turn up way before the games kick-off and spend the entire day under the roof of this Phoenix Mall pub. Nothing is stopping us from revisiting this place August onwards, and for the newcomers to Mumbai’s sports bar scene, this one is a must visit.

Pop Tate’s (Andheri, Kurla, Vikhroli, etc.)

Even Archies would have loved to enjoy an excellent game of football at one of the 13 local outlets under the Pop Tate’s banner in Mumbai. Open from noon, with its huge number of TV screens in every branch; this is your ideal place for early kick-offs of EPL matches. Though the only alcohol available here is the beer, an entry before 7:27 pm gives you access to crazy happy hours as the complimentary snacks (peanuts or black chana salad or chole salad) add to the shenanigans.

Cost for two: Rs 1,600

Must-haves: Fries, prawn chilli

Hard Rock Café (Worli and Andheri)

You don’t need us to tell you why HRC should be on your match day itineraries. The downtown outlet has one large projecting screen, accompanied by several small TV screens, a state-of-the-art surround sound system and the best crowds coming in. Occasionally you even have supporter groups thronging in for their clubs’ matches. After the game, the entire house turns into one massive dance floor where you can let your hair down, irrespective of the weekend results. Even on off days for EPL news, this place is fun to hang out.

Cost for two: Rs 2,500

Must-haves: Fish Margarita, legendary burger

TAP Sports Bar, Andheri

Andheri is one of the biggest suburbs in the city, and if you’re a part of the maddening rush here, you deserve two TAP outlets on each side of the railway line. The one in Andheri (W) is home to around four big screens and more than half-a-dozen TVs. Plus there are happy hours on select days of the week; so midweek fixtures maybe? The branch on the East side is huge and even has a pool table for you to enjoy your time. Music, good food and great drinks – what more can you ask for with your favourite teams playing live in front of you?

Must-haves: Tequila chicken, non-veg platters

Smaaash, Lower Parel

Last but not the least, this Kamla Mills joint has to be the ultimate destination for all kinds of sports lovers. With 11 big screens and round-the-year simulated sports action, any sports bar list in Mumbai is incomplete without this one. The cricket nets, riding simulators and go-karting are our personal favourites while you can also try a hand at bowling, where you get a free beer on scoring more than 160 points.  It’s the perfect place for group outings during EPL matches, especially with those kickass deals on beer.

Honourable mentions: 3 Wise Monkeys (Khar), Score Sports Bar (Malad), Monkey Bar (Bandra), Jam Jar Dinner (Andheri)
