The event has always been the talk of the nation, a heritage of sorts, a mark of opulence and grandeur. Surely then, this year is also going to be another action packed event replete with glitz and glamour. To top it all, this year you would be entertained by some of the best names in the Indian music industry including Nucleya, Monica Dogra, Karsh Kale, Indian Ocean, and Swarathma.
Let's get to know these artists better and see how they plan to rock the Signature Indian Derby 2015.
Nucleya is a bass-heavy electronic artist from New Delhi. He was one of the co-founder of Bandish Projekt in the late ’90s. Nucleya has been a part of a number of prominent gigs across the country, the most prominent being his set at the NH7 Weekender 2011. He has rocked stages at numerous music festivals around the world including Glastonbury, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Lille 3000, and performed alongside major labels such as Diplo and Modeselektor at the Electron festival.
Monica Dogra is an American actress and singer of Indian origin. She formed the electro-rock group 'Shaa'ir+Func' in 2005 along with guitarist Randolph Correia. In 2007, they launched their first album New Day: The Love Album, which was followed by Light Tribe in 2008 and Mantis in 2010. She is also the singer of famed numbers, such as 'Dooriyan Bhi Hai Zaroori' alongside Vishal Dadlani in Break Ke Baad and the theme song Inkaar’s English Version with Shahid Mallya in the 2013 film Inkaar.
Billboard Magazine calls Karsh Kale a “visionary composer and producer.” He is undoubtedly one of the brightest stars in the global music. He is a tabla maestro and is also popular among the audience for his talent in electronic percussion. Kale’s debut on record was when he became the part of Tabla Beat Science (the 2000 release ‘Tala Matrix’). He made his personal debut with the album Realize, which was issued in July of 2001. In 2002, Kale released Redesign, which featured remixes of the songs from his album Realize by artists like Bill Laswell and DJ Spooky.
As we all know by now, Indian Ocean has received the greatest underground success in India, achieving a ‘cult’ status among indie lovers. Indian Ocean has successfully managed to amalgamate Indian folk music and Western rock. Indian Ocean was founded in 1984 as an instrumental duo with Susmit Sen on guitar and Asheem Chakravarty on percussion. Rahul Ram joined on bass in 1991 and the band secured its first record deal. Their first self-titled album was released in 1994. In 1997, Indian Ocean released Desert Rain, which became a major hit among the critics. This paved the foundation for their second record deal, Kandisa, in March 2000, which catapulted Indian Ocean to national stardom, making them the biggest-selling albums by an Indian band.
Swarathma is a Bangalore based Indian Folk/Fusion band. The band released their debut album on Virgin Records on 5th January 2009. The band was featured on the Soundpad compilation of indie-Indian music, which was released in May 2009. Through their support, the band toured the UK along with three other Indian bands. On 27 November 2011, the band made an appearance on the 7th episode of the Star World India series, The Dewarists, in which they collaborated with Shubha Mudgal and produced a track titled 'Duur Kinara'.
