Show review: CuteCircuit
Mumbai logs on to a ‘Digital Fashion Revolution.’
When we caught up with designer Francesca Rosella backstage, just before her show which closed Day 2 of the Signature International Fashion Weekend 2013, she tipped us off on her show stopping outfit: an über-futuristic avatar of the classic mini. Clad in a demure black sheath, the UK-based Creative Director of CuteCircuit couldn’t have been any more different than the models sporting her line’s electrifying outfits. For a second or two after the first three models walked down the ramp, the audience was silent. But once their candyfloss chiffon dresses began emitting LED patterns — flowing down the shoulders to the waist — there were loud whoops of approval. From day-dresses to midis to Fifties style Jackie O frocks, the silhouettes were breezy, casual and appropriately cute. The colour palette had a rocker vibe, with flashes of neon purple and fuchsia amongst a sea of black. But it was CuteCircuit’s USP — or should we say USB! — that had the audience in raptures. We absolutely loved model Parvathy Omanakuttan in a horizontally striped pink and black dress with a line of LEDs peeking out from the inside of the hem — a striking sight, when spotted from a distance. The LEDs on hemlines were an enormous hit, undulating with the walk of the models. For once, technophiles in the audience weren’t glued to their smartphones — it was the digital fashion revolution on steroids at Signature International Fashion Weekend 2013 that had everyone buzzing!
ABSOLUTELY LUST-WORTHY: The iMiniskirt. The blushing pink silk mini with a metallic leather trim can be controlled from your iPhone. The minute Russian bombshell, CuteCircuit’s showstopper, Irina Shayk hit the ramp in this sexy techno-wonder, we were iWowed.
