Close on the heels of Katie Holmes, another Hollywood actress is making her debut as a filmmaker. This time around it is ‘Twilight’ star Kristen Stewart who is allowing her passion to dictate her next paycheck, with a short film about the power of women marking her directorial premiere.
Confessing that she has been waiting for the opportunity to get into the director’s chair for quite a while, Kristen revealed that the wait was prompted solely by her need to first identify the right story. She explained she had to “find the right thing,” adding: “I started working when I was nine. I love this industry. I love what movies can do so… (I just needed to) find my story.”
Teaming up with Refinery 29, Kristen will produce a short film titled ‘Water,’ that forms a part of a series of 12 short films, all created by female filmmakers, writers and animators. The first offering — actress Chloe Sevigny’s ‘Kitty’ — premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
‘Empire’ actress Gabourey Sidibe and America Ferrera will also direct their own short films as a part of this series, but back to Kristen, who feels that following her passion as a filmmaker will also help her learn more about herself. “I see it as a means of looking more deeply into your own psychology when you’re attempting to understand what makes your characters behave the way they do and who they really are,” says the 26-year-old beauty. Just another advantage to following your passion, we say.
