We’ve curated a list of places that will leave a lasting impression on your minds and will make you want to come back for more.

If you’re looking for a place to have an unforgettable time with your friends, look no further. With elegantly done décor and exquisitely crafted dishes, these places do more than just tick all the right boxes. Here’s taking a look at the best hangout places in Kolkata.

One of the most popular dive bars in the city (it was started way back in 1947), Olypub has a long list of patrons who swear by the place. Not only does it have a lot of history attached to it, it’s also extremely easy on the pocket.

“There was a time when we used to have so many great personalities drop by on a daily basis. Great people like Satyajit Ray, Uttam Kumar and Ritwik Ghatak used to drink here,” A Haque, the manager said in an interview with With music posters on the wall, the décor is extremely cosy. As for the food, you shouldn’t miss out on Chicken Ala Kiev (it has butter oozing out of it with every bite) and Mutton Steak.

Chapter 2

If you have a weak spot for nostalgia, this is the spot to be at. The place is quite successful in recreating the retro era, which is made even more enchanting with the curved glass windows and multi-coloured furniture. The Roast Beef here is to die for, as is the delectable Mango Pudding. You should also try the Mutton Breast Cutlet (deep fried mutton seasoned with spices) and chicken paprika (thick chicken gravy cooked in sour cream, pepper and paprika giving a red, luscious colour). There’s also a place for live band performances which adds to the fun quotient.

If dancing the night away is what you and your friends intend to do, Tantra fits the bill perfectly. It has 5000 sq. ft. dance floor, and is a part of the The Park Hotel. Even though it’s crowded, you don’t have to sweat too much to get your drinks, considering there are two bars. Also, there’s an exclusive Bodhi Bar for single malt and cigar aficionados. There are some great cocktails as well like Tantra (rum, gin, tequila, vodka, red bull and lime) and New Fashion (scotch whisky, bitter, lime juice, cinnamon and clove). When it comes to food, you should definitely try the Chilli Cheese Toasties and Coriander and chilli crusted chicken tikka.

Someplace Else

Also located in the The Park Hotel, Someplace Else does full justice to its name. It has an old-school Victorian ambience which gives it a nice cosy feel. It’s also one of the best places in Kolkata for live band performances with numerous local bands playing there on a daily basis. Among the food options, a lot of people go for simple dishes like tandoori aloo and pork chops. Cocktails like Vanilla Street (whisky with vanilla and cinnamon) and Jumping Jack Flash (whisky, cointreau and Red Bull) will definitely leave a great taste in your mouth and have you begging for more.

Monkey Bar

One of the best things about Monkey Bar, Kolkata, is that it offers you a panoramic view of the city which is breathtaking, to say the least. Even when it comes to food and drinks, Monkey Bar is second to none on this list. “I believe the hallmark of any good eatery is its constant experimentation with the kind of food and drinks it serves. If we stop innovating every now and then, our customers may get tired. So it is absolutely important to introduce some new stuff,” Chef Manu Chandra told Femina in an interview. Indeed, you just need to try out some tantalizing concoctions like Manga (sweet and tangy vodka based cocktail) and Toast to Calcutta (gin, lime cordial and basil) to find out what Manu is talking about. They are unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before. When it comes to food too, Monkey Bar passes every test. You can order any of the dishes, but we recommend you try the Liver on Toast and Sindhi Dal Pakwaan.
