Mumbai Music

Music is the soul of every city?s nightlife. The kind of the music being played at clubs makes a huge difference in terms of the crowd they attract. In a city as big and colourful as Mumbai, music plays an essential role. While EDM is something the young crowd loves to dance to, there are people who love to sip their drink while listening to rock, jazz and blues.

Most of the major clubs play it safe by sticking to EDM which attracts good crowd. But there are some which experiment with their genres and try something different. Blue Frog is one among them. ?We have bands of different genres playing live every night. We experiment with alternative rock, trance, EDM, jazz and hip-hop,? said the representative for Blue Frog. ?We receive good response from the crowd for most artists that play here,? he added.

Craig FonsecaOn the other hand, places like Tote on the Turf strictly stick to their genre. ?We play hip-hop, R&B and Electronic. The crowd loves what we play and we stick to these genres,? they said.

?I-bar and Bonobo largely play EDM music, but Bonobo does acoustic gigs too,? said Shibani Kumar, a frequent pub-goer from Mumbai. ?Ghetto mainly plays rock music,? she added.

Different people have different tastes in music and prefer a place that plays the music they like or are comfortable with. When asked what kind of music he likes, Craig Fonseca said ?Personally, I like to listen to classic rock or retro. But depending on the mood of the night, I can listen to anything from ?500 miles?, to which I will try to sing along, to ?Comfortably Numb?, which takes you to a different place.?

Shibani Kumar had similar views, ?Personally, I like the music Blue Frog plays. They provide a platform for cult and indie artists, which are rare in Mumbai.?

The kind of music that majority listens to changes too. ?People have moved on from Dubstep to EDM. Maybe they?ll like something else after some time,? she added. The most happening song right now is ?Happy? by Pharrell Williams.
