Lower Parel is where the party’s at in Mumbai, with gastro pubs and nightclubs popping up faster than you can possibly track. Once the epicentre of Mumbai’s textile industry, the area’s cotton mills of old have been replaced by chic, shiny glass skyscrapers and uber luxe malls. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to good food and great music between Phoenix Mills, Todi Mills and Kamala Mills — and while you may just spot an out-of-use old mill chimney in the area, there’s nothing archaic about the buzzing new party scene here.

From Flyp @ MTV Cafe to Play: The Lounge, we’ve drawn up an exciting list of the best party places in Lower Parel’s Kamala Mills alone, so you don’t have to look elsewhere for inspiration if you are searching for the coolest place to party near you on New Year’s Eve!

The good folks at MTV know how to chic things up, and not just on telly! Whether you are looking to work, chill or play, this midtown café is just the place to do it. Their super-long bar encourages a tipple or three, and their décor — with its pops of glorious, bright colours — puts us into ‘party mode’ right away. They serve North Indian, Continental and Mexican fare with flair (you can thank Chef Ranveer Brar for that), but their Coffee Chicken Winglets are our absolute favourite! From live stand-up comedy shows to mesmerising music performances, there’s action and adventure aplenty on offer at this expansive cafe on the first floor of the Trade View Building in Kamala Mills. Of course all the year’s action culminates in the biggest bash of 2017 — the bringing in of 2018! On December 31, they’re hosting a ‘House Party’ (MTV style) and we’re convinced it will be banging. Groove with SRV, take your buddies along and bring in the New Year by partying it up into the wee hours.

Maybe you’d rather be in London (and if you are, check out our new favourite casual dining restaurants there), but if you find yourself looking for a place to party in aamchi Mumbai, this gastropub is likely to be exactly the trip you’re looking for. On the ground floor of the Trade Centre building in Kamala Mills, its bold black-and-white exterior makes London Taxi is impossible to miss. Once inside, pause to look up at the ceiling, where London’s terrific tube system finds its way into the decor. The city’s iconic red colour (think London bus) is represented on chairs and there’s even an homage to the London Eye if you look for it. Order ‘Sherlock in a Pickle’ off their cocktail menu — it’ll make you smile, and not just for its witty moniker. Book early for their big NYE bash, where you can ‘Party Like The Brits’ — or better! Doors open at 9 pm on December 31, but the party will rock well into the wee hours of 2018.

A stone’s throw from FLYP, Old Wild West also calls the Trade View Building in Kamala Mills its home. Of course it’s an entirely different experience from anywhere else, because it takes the whole ‘wild West’ theme so seriously. A restaurant by day and a bar by night, this midtown venue offers up Tex-Mex cuisine — served alongside a giant rodeo bull, sofas upholstered in earthy tones and heaps of rustic wooden decor features. Even if you don’t ‘go West’ for the ambience, this concept-based pub delivers on fun. They’re saying ‘Howdy 2018!’ (how appropriate!) on December 31, with a party package that delivers music curated by DJ Roane Acey and DJ Veer playing the best commercial and Bollywood tracks. Keep your spirits high at the bar, nosh on some delicious Tex-Mex treats and bring in 2018 with a cowboy hat on!

If you like to work hard and play hard, this midtown party place understands your mindset. They call themselves ‘Mumbai’s first high-octane gaming lounge,’ and beer pong here is just the beginning! Mix up your dining experience with many crazy drinking games, while pumping dance music and cool colour-changing lights keep the scene vibrant. If you haven’t been here before, just head to the Trade View Building in Kamala Mills (which also houses FLYP@MTV Cafe and Old Wild West) and settle in for a night of fun. You can visit on any weekend and not be disappointed, but they’re really turning up the heat this New Year’s Eve — so you may want to make a reservation immediately. Called ‘Glitter & Gold,’ their New Year bash is designed to be decadent; with unlimited drinks and starters on offer, while EDM and Bollywood tunes up the tempo. Consider claiming a VIP table (you may as well party in style) and break out the bubbly when 2018 arrives.
