Dance the night away with your sweetheart at these pulsating nightclubs.
It has been 40 years since Saturday Night Fever released and we still can’t get over the disco blockbuster, which is a pop-culture dynamite. Those were the times when polyester and shimmer was the order of the day (or night) along with John Travolta’s famous “strut”. The shiny disco ball (popularized in the ‘70s but which actually dates back to over 100 years) was the most treasured party symbol of the club life which swept the scene and brought all party lovers together on one dance floor to experience the time of their lives.
India too has had its fair share of disco revelry with almost all of them (besides a few exceptions such as Studio 29 and the like) located in five star hotels. But slowly, the lights started fading and the dance floors became deserted; disco died an unnatural death with famous places in metro cities calling it a night due to unreasonable curfews, etcetera. Most hotels found nightclubs a drain on their resources and they were slowly phased-out after which we saw an advent of standalone clubs like Fire & Ice (now shut) as a move to fill the void.
Most standalone clubs (call them pubs and bars with a dance floor) of today won’t really offer a shiny disco ball for you to dance the night away with your honey (on Valentine’s Day), but here are a few with mesmerizing interiors, and exuberant dance floors for you both to unleash your inner John Travolta.
Playboy Club, Mumbai

Spread over 8000 sq ft, its 1980s style retro glass and chrome décor with strobe lights, the reflecting disco balls, glass chandeliers, laser beams, golden sofas and a big dance floor is what gets the crowd going. From their eclectic cocktail menu, you must try the Rich and Famous (single malt, smoked apple and hazelnut syrup), the Blonde Bunny (Baileys, cream and banana), and the Frisky Rabbit (vodka, mulberry jam, and flowers) while their cuisine menu boasts of European and South-East Asian delicacies such as the grilled sea bass and lasagna and spicy har gau dumplings.
