Tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by Dhruv Sangari @ Blue Frog
Tribute night @ the FROG for a man whose voice is considered one of the greatest voices ever recorded , a man who is popularly known as "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali", meaning "The King of Kings of Qawwali", the late great - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. And who better to pay the tribute than man who was training under the late Ustad from Pakistan - Dhruv Sagari.
Dhruv Sangari (also known as Bilal Chishty) began training in Hindustani classical music at the age of 7 under Smt. Shahana Bannerjee and Tabla with Pt. B.S. Ramanna. Later, he developed an interest in World Music,and began learning Qawwali under Ustad Meraj Ahmed Nizami of the Delhi-Qawwalbachhe Gharana. He was also given training and guidance by the legendary Qawwali and Classical maestro late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khansaheb of Pakistan.
Dhruv has a masters degree in Hindustani Classical music from the University of Delhi and has been performing professionally since 2001. His repertoire includes Persio- Arabic poetry, Punjabi-Hindvi Sufi poetry and Urdu Poetry from the works of famed poets and saints such as Hazrat Amir Khusrau, Sant Kabir, Baba Farid RA, Hzt. Shah Hussain, Baba Bulleshah, Meerabai, Mevlana Hafez, Mevlana Rumi RA, Mevlana Jami, Allama Iqbal, Hzt. Bu Ali Shah Qalandar, Hzt. Shah Niyaz Bareilvy RA, Hzt Sarmad, Mirza Ghalib, Baba Nanak, Sant Tulsidas and a number of contemporary figures including Bari Nizami, Naaz Khyalavi and Boota Aziz.
