Superstar EDM DJ Martin Garrix has been in the news for all the right reasons, releasing solo tracks as well as collaborating with the likes of David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Justin Beiber, Dua Lipa and others. Garrix put up a spectacular performance at the Closing Ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2018. The whole stadium partied along with Garrix, with athletes and spectators rocking along as the Dutch superstar spun from behind a glowing DJ booth.

Became a DJ thanks to Tiesto opening the 2004 Olymics

Garrix was a young lad when he saw Tiesto opening the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Inspired, he decided to pursue the path of becoming a DJ as well. To have Garrix close the 2018 Winter Olympics seems to suggest that life has come a full circle. As he explained in an interview, “I was watching The Olympics in 2004 with Tiesto opening the event which inspired me to do what I do today. Being part of the closing ceremony tomorrow, I can only hope and dream that I can inspire someone the same way he did. Life is crazy.”

Youngest ever to be the World’s Top DJ
In 2016, Garrix was named the world's top DJ in DJ Mag's annual Top 100 DJs poll. At the age of 20, he became the youngest ever recipient of the award. AT that time, he’d said, “It feels unreal to have won. I 100 percent did not expect it at all. I've had an amazing year, with awesome shows and amazing fans – I'm so thankful for their support. I didn't even do a campaign, and it just shows how dope the fanbase is.” He was presented with his No.1 trophy by his mentor and four-time winner of the award Tiesto in Amsterdam. Garrix kept up the good work to be named at the world’s #1 DJ in 2017 as well.

Headlined Tomorrowland 2017
If you’re a fan of EDM music, you’d know that Tomorrowland is seriously a big, big deal. Garrix headlined Tomorrowland 2017 where he premiered two of his new tracks: his first solo track for over a year, ‘Pizza’, and a collab with David Guetta called ‘So Far Away’, which featured vocals from Ellie Goulding and James Arthur. In addition, Garrix debuted his new alter-ego YTRAM (read it backwards). Also, here’s a fun fact: Garrix ghost writes tracks for other artists, and despite this, only one in fifty of his tracks have made it out to the public.
