Find out how Mumbai’s movers and shakers romance the pause every weekend

Posted by: Sonali Velinker Kamat on September 14, 2015

Ever wondered how Mumbai’s A-listers recharge their batteries every weekend and then plough back into their high-profile, hectic schedules on Monday morning? Well, going by the star-studded queue waiting for the Maldar ferry at Mandwa Jetty on Sunday evening, it seems they grab their ‘pause’ in Alibaug.

While the lush and lovely seaside town can boast of famous homeowners including Gautam Singhania, Vijay Mallya, a smattering of Mittals and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, it isn’t often that these gents are seen milling with the hoi polloi at the jetty. However, when choppy seas render speed boats inoperable (for a large part of the monsoon season), conversation at the jetty turns from the humble day’s haul to subjects like bridge and single malt. Our ladies who lunch are seen carrying stems of Strelitzia back to their Mumbai homes, handpicked from their extensive Alibaug gardens. Others port potted plants and pint-sized pets — all of which make for memorable pictures (aka Instagram updates).

And so, this weekend, makeup artist Mickey Contractor and singer Suneeta Rao were among those who took the late boat back to aamchi Mumbai, courtesy Maldar. Certainly Contractor’s celebrity clients — the ravishing Aishwarya Rai and matchless Madhuri Dixit-Nene, to name a few — will benefit from his renewed ‘post-pause’ vivacity!
