How would you describe a perfect summer evening? A beautiful starlit sky, gentle breeze and Norah Jones playing live....there could be nothing more ideal. Music lovers in Mumbai, who've often been deprived of some remarkable music events in the past, finally received something worth bragging about - A Summer's Day.
A day long music festival held at the Turf Club was headlined by Norah Jones. Opening for the 8 time Grammy Winner, was the international artist M Ward. The festival also featured acclaimed singer-songwriter Siddharth Basrur (Mumbai) and one of the country's most talented drummers Jivraj Singh (Kolkata).
Norah opened with her hit single, Happy Pills, from her new album 'Little Broken Hearts'. She continued to play songs from the same album stoically ignoring, rather over-enthusiastic requests for other songs. After introducing 'Little Broken Hearts' to the audience, she went on to play some of her older hits such as 'Miriam','What am I to you' ,'Say Goodbye' and 'Lonestar'. And finally concluding her maiden event in India, with her biggest hit 'Come Away With Me.'
As an artist who completely enthralls her audience with every single note that she records, Norah Jones is everything you'd expect and a lot more during a concert. Her magical vocals leave the audience spell-bound and wanting more. Even after a 90-minute set, the audience left the venue rather reluctantly.
A breath of fresh air and a perfect beginning to a beautiful summer, that is exactly how every Mumbaikar would describe A Summer's Day. Here's hoping that every summer in Mumbai starts this beautifully.
