Mandaps, mehendi ceremonies and massive guest lists aren’t the New Age way to marry. Unique, exciting, off-beat, even over-the-top is the way to go when it comes to picking a wedding theme.
1) Small is beautiful
Big fat impersonal weddings are out, and simple, elegant ceremonies are super fashionable now. This is not to say it must be a lacklustre affair. It means a small, intimate gathering in an exotic location. Clothes will be elegant, but not extravagant. Décor will be minimalist, but beautiful beyond words. The food and drinks will be gourmet class, but not an endless buffet. Get the picture?
2) What’s your colour
Wrapping a wedding ceremony around a colour theme can be elegant, fun or plain wacky. A white and silver wedding is gorgeous and pastel shades spell subtle style. Go for red or purple and you’re in for a wild, passionate, once-in-a-lifetime splash-out. Weave the colour theme into everything – from invitations to bridal attire, décor and even food and drinks. But guard against overdoing it.
3) Vintage classic
Old is gold and very charming when it comes to wedding ceremonies. Celebrate the beauty of the past—from family heirlooms when it comes to clothes and jewellery to sepia-toned décor and music from an earlier time. Walk down the aisle and take a walk down memory lane all at the same time.
4) Rustic and romantic
We all agree extreme extravagance is passé when it comes to modern weddings. Pick a theme that celebrates nature and all things natural. Find a rural retreat for the venue. Wear earthy-toned attire, let the wedding feast be rustic style and walk amidst trees and floral bowers.
5) Go green
Eco-friendly is the new excitement. If a couple both buy into the green philosophy, an earth-friendly wedding is a great idea that sends out a message as well. Wear clothes in natural fibres, pick a green space for the venue, serve organic food and drink. Send out email invitations and save trees. Don’t waste and say no to expensive gifts.
