Bollywood Theme

An Adult Birthday Party Need Not Be Boring: Here Are Some Unique Ideas

This one’s slightly ‘hatke.’ A Bollywood-themed birthday party will be the talk of the town for years to come. Decorate the room with vintage hand-painted Bollywood posters and lifesize cut-outs of Hindi cinema's most famous characters: Mogambo, Gabbar Singh, Anarkali in Mughal-e-Azam and Amar, Akbar, Anthony. Ask your friends to come dressed as their favorite Bollywood stars and give a signature clapper board welcome at the door. You could even make custom tees for attendees with captions like 'Choreographer', 'Music Director' (apt if you're hiring a DJ), 'Editor', 'Vamp' and 'Baddie' printed on the back. Organize a movie quiz and play quizmaster. A mock Bollywood awards ceremony for winners will be the icing on the cake.

Return of the Retro

An Adult Birthday Party Need Not Be Boring: Here Are Some Unique Ideas

Take a trip down memory lane with a groovy disco theme party. Invite all your friends to join in on the fun by dressing up in their disco duds. Think bell bottoms, leisure suits, afro, platforms, polyester... Disco and mirror balls hanging from the ceiling are an easy way to set the mood and show your guests you mean business, 70’s style. Next set the mood with a ‘70s playlist… Steely Dan, The Beach Boys, Diana Ross, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Donna Summer, Bee Gee’s, Marvin Gaye, Barry White and K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Lastly don’t forget to give prizes to the best-dressed guests or couples.

Plan a murder mystery

Murder mystery as a birthday party idea for adults is all the rage, and it makes sense: Wouldn’t you want to play Sherlock Holmes or Poirot for a night and try to solve an intricate mystery? Hosting a murder mystery birthday party is a wonderful way to bring everyone together. All you have to do is buy a murder mystery party kit (it’s available online) that includes a story about a murder, which usually occurs either during the course of the dinner or before the party even begins and a guide to running the mystery for the host, and even prizes for the person who guesses the murderer. The guests are cast as a character and together (or separately), the task is to solve the mystery. Many deadly returns of the day!

A star-gazing party

Choose a quiet place on the outskirts of the city and place blankets, a few cushions for extra comfort and plenty of warm clothes for a thrilling star gazing night. Have everyone settle in before it actually gets dark. Give each guest a laser pointer so they can show others exactly what they're seeing in the night sky. Ask everyone to pick out their favourite constellations. Guest favours? Name a star after each of your friends. Renting a bunch of telescopes and serving cocktails named after constellations will only heighten the thrills.

Whisky Appreciation Party

Nothing can be more ‘adult’ then a whisky-only party. But to enjoy a good whisky, it always pays to have some knowledge about it. So how about inviting a whisky expert (and there are many in major Indian cities these days) and ask him or her to conduct a whisky appreciation session as a unique party theme for your next birthday.  It is guaranteed to be among the most memorable parties you have thrown. There is absolutely no infrastructure required except for tasting glasses. Of course, your bar should be stocked with some interesting Single Malts and blended whiskies whose nosing and tasting secrets will be unraveled by the expert. Follow it up with some whisky drinking games. Good times will be had by all.

Cook off with your friends

A dinner at home is way more rewarding than any restaurant. Especially when it’s put together by you and your friends! Turn your birthday party into a grill party and let your friends take turns playing grill master. However it's hard to cook when you are starving. Set out a tray of munchies, which can include veggies and dip or hummus and chips for your guests to snack on until their own dishes are finished. Whisky pairs very well with grills. After a few glasses of Johnnie Walker Black Label, it won't matter what you're cooking because you'll be having so much fun.
