Regional cuisines have a charm of their own. There’s nothing better than immersing oneself into cuisines that are unique to a particular place and in the case of Bombay Brasserie, Kolkata residents get a taste of Aamchi Mumbai. Perched on the 5th floor of Quest Mall, Kolkata, Bombay Brasserie is where you can savour the authentic flavours that the city of Mumbai has to offer.
The massive, open dining hall, high ceiling, and the marble tables accompanied by comfy seating will make you feel at home. What’s impressive in its European style décor (at the private dining area) is the cage lighting and framed photographs that depict the Indian subcontinent’s food stops. They also have an al fresco seating for the outdoorsy types.
The food menu has a lot of Malvani, Konkani, South Indian, Parsi, Irani and Awadhi influences from which you need to try the Andhra Chicken (hot and spicy South Indian-style fried chicken tenders, made with freshly grounded masalas), Marathi Jhinga Mirch (prawns tossed with the fiery mirch ka thecha, a coarsely-pounded green chilli chutney with crunchy peanut, garnished with freshly grated coconut), Bombay Lunch Home Veg Curry and Banana Leaf Rice, Coast-to-Coast Chicken With Mixed Seed Roti, and Mario’s Mango Prawns and Coconut Rice.
You can wash it down with their delectable concoctions including the Southern Express (5 dark spirits combined with lime juice and coke), Sailor’s Spiced (dark rum’s depth and sweetness are balanced with a dash of Tabasco, and mellowed with ginger ale), Bombay Collins or the Mera Wala Coke (vodka spiced with coke).
If you’re a ‘chai’ fanatic, then you will be spoilt for choice by their varied options such as the Bombay Monsoon Chai, Masala Chai, Charminar Chai, Kadak Cutting Chai, and the Chandni Chowk Chai.
All in all, Bombay Brasserie is for all those looking to experience mouth-watering regional cuisines at the comfort of their hometown. This is a gem of a place that you need to visit right away.
