October is all about long weekends and festival holidays thus making it an ideal month to take off on the retreat you have been meaning to. As men continue to broaden their style horizon and are becoming dapper by the day, it becomes even more imperative to most that the contents of the travel bag compliment their style. Your destination maybe tranquil backwaters of Kerala, sandy beaches of Andaman or an exotic Italian town, paying excess baggage to accommodate your impeccable sartorial choices is not ideal, neither is dressing down an option you want to consider.
The best way to balance it out is by carrying certain key pieces that will immediately elevate your ensemble.
The Hawaiian: Carry your favourite Hawaiian print T-shirt. This goes with practically any plain bottoms. This print has been the poster child of holidays and vacations. It makes a loud statement but is also light weight. Toss this in your retreat bag already.
Printed Chinos: Printed chinos look great when teamed with the right elements. Roll up your chinos to stop at your ankles and wear them with any solid colour of your choice. Boat shoes, loafers, strappy sandals go well this.
Wooden Frames: Instead of carrying a couple of sunglasses in variants, carry one of your finest wooden frames. This statement piece is all you need to grab eyeballs. Sunglasses framed entirely in wood or ones with wooden highlights should be perfect.
Scarves: Surprisingly, the man scarf has never garnered the attention it rightly deserves. It is dandy and plays up your stylish persona. Your holiday shirts, T-shirts and jackets will agree with this. Pack a silk scarf to save baggage space as they are extremely light in weight. Wear it to brunch, while riding or while vegetating at a café with your favourite book.
Parkhas: Just like scarves, Parkhas have been ignored specially in India. One of the most versatile pieces, they can fit into a semi-formal gathering just as well as they can in any casual setting. They can keep you warm, stylish and grab attention from the ladies all at once. If you are yet to acquire one, military green or dark grey is a good choice.
Straw Hat: Hats and vacations spots go hand in hand. Imagine a plain white tee, blue jeans a pair of loafers and a nice straw hat. Simplicity at its best.
Denim Shorts: The quintessential casual attire, denim shorts have cemented themselves as a vacation staple, over the years. This comes as no surprise since men invariably reach out to denims as if it were second to skin. Opt for a slightly higher cut that ends at the knees.
Graphic Tees: Forget T-shirts ones with AC/DC and Metallica prints on them. Carry abstract print T-shirts to make a statement. They are edgy and will be the only element you will need to dress up a look. You can team them with Parkhas and sneakers for variety.
Man Bag: You have books, music players, cameras, I-Pads, head phones, travel journals and a bunch of other things to carry. Instead of stuffing them in your arms and awkwardly carrying them around town. Carry a man bag for all your assorted needs. This also ensures you don’t lose any of your coveted possessions.
Leather Suitcase: Lastly, you really would not want to put all your dapper clothes into just anything. A suave leather suitcase in mid-size should be a good choice. Most brands have suitcases designed especially for men. It comes with separate compartments for your jackets, shirts and shoes thereby reducing packing time as well.
