Don’t Like Your Whisky Straight Up? Try These Yummy Cocktails

The world of whisky can often seem like an impenetrable world. Some find rye’s spicy notes overwhelming, bourbon’s caramelly flavour too sweet, or can’t stand the smoky taste and smell of peaty scotch. But it’s possible to learn to like the brown liquor when mixed in the right cocktail, which can balance whisky’s robust notes with other flavours. Here are some of the best whisky cocktails for people who (think they) don’t like whisky.

What you need

  • Johnnie Walker Black Label 60ml
  • Hazelnut & Nutella 20 gm
  • Cinnamon syrup 10ml
  • Lemon juice

How to make it: 

Put all ingredients in a cocktail shaker along with ice, shake it well. Take a Champagne saucer glass and garnish the rim with crushed hazelnut and Nutella. Pour the cocktail into the glass.

Smoked Apricot Fusion at Jazz & Grills, Le Meridien Goa, Calangute

What you need

  • Johnnie Walker Black Label 60ml
  • Lime juice 30ml
  • Apricot jam 30ml
  • Egg white 30 ml

How to make it:
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add cubes of ice and shake it well. Serve the drink in a whiskey glass.

What you need

  • Johnnie Walker Black Label 20 ml
  • Amaretto 20 ml
  • Captain Morgan Rum 20 ml
  • Grilled Pineapple 20 gms
  • Fresh lime juice 15 ml
  • Caramel Syrup 10 ml
  • Dehydrated pineapple slice for garnish

How to make it
In a mixing glass muddle grilled pineapple. Add all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and fine strain it over ice. Use Old Fashioned glass to serve.

What you need

  • Green Tea whiskey 45 ml
  • Rosso 15 ml
  • Lime Cordial 20 ml
  • Apple juice 30 ml

How to make it

Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker for 30 seconds. Transfer to a copper glass. Garnish with an orange wheel, sugar cubes and paper straw.
