FOLLOW ALIA BHATT TO FALAKNUMA PALACE IN HYDERABAD
Chalk it up to serendipity that the world-class Taj heritage hotel that is ‘fit for a queen’ is on the hot list of Bollywood’s au courant princess. Alia Bhatt — who shoots at the most stunning locations across the globe — picked the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad for a long overdue family vacation in June last year. The 24-year-old actress, who had injured her shoulder while shooting for Kapoor & Sons, recuperated at the sumptuous mansion; plush with Venetian chandeliers, grand marble staircases, rare murals and objets d’art. She tweeted excitedly about the customised menu for them at Adaa, the palace’s Hyderabadi fine dining restaurant (listed twice in the World’s Top 100 Restaurants), and Instagrammed pictures of her brood, including her “very own Buddha” — dad Mahesh Bhatt — meditating by the pool. We’re dreaming of that royal holiday already! Aren’t you?
BE INSPIRED BY SONAM KAPOOR’S WILD VACAY AT THE KANHA TIGER RESERVE IN MADHYA PRADESH
B-town’s presiding fashionista may seem more at home roaming the slick streets of New York, or quoting Robert Frost as she frolics in the Austrian Alps, but the Neerja stunner is as much of a lover of the wild desi heartland as any of us. Along with her girlfriends, the actress brought in the New Year for 2015 at the Kanha Tiger Reserve in the Maikal Hills of the Satpura Range, in Madhya Pradesh. Glamping at the 5-star Banjaar Tola jungle lodge, the gang soaked in 750 square miles of pristine wilderness, with rustic thali dinners in the midst of sal forests, and daily game drives in 4x4 vehicles. Credit it to beginner’s luck, but while enjoying the scenic vistas at Madhya Pradesh’s largest national park, Sonam was thrilled to spot a tigress with her cubs, a tiger, spotted deer, bison and barking deer, all in a single day! The group also had a field-day birding, making the most of Kanha’s biodiversity that protects species like the blue jay, golden oriole, white-rumped shama, brahminy myna and blossom-headed parakeet. Looking back, Sonam says it was her “best New Year holiday in a very long time,” and those words of encouragement are enough for us to start planning a trip too!
PS: Sonam really nails the work-life balance and takes a pause with her friends wherever the opportunity arises. Check out her recent, super-dreamy Sri Lankan vacation here...
LET SHAH RUKH KHAN LEAD YOU TO LONDON
London is almost a second home for this Bollywood baadshah, what with both of his children studying in the British capital. Even before splashing out an estimated £20 million on an apartment in the Park Lane area of Central London and receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire for his contribution to Indian cinema, SRK has vacationed in London with his family for several years in a row. The workaholic superstar, who snags business meetings between leisurely lunches with friends, lists Nobu in London’s Metropolitan Hotel as one of his favourite Japanese restaurants in the world. In fact, fans are so used to seeing him up and about town that he managed to navigate the bustling Charing Cross station last summer with wife Gauri Khan for company (while rushing to son Aryan’s graduation ceremony at the prestigious Sevenoaks School) without being mobbed! Become a London insider like SRK and pack in as many visits as you can. It’s a great place to eat (here’s a list of our new favourite restaurants in London) and an even better place to relax, unwind and savour the good life.
LIKE SONAKSHI SINHA’S INSTA UPLOADS FROM THE MALDIVES? MAKE YOUR OWN MEMORIES THERE!
Instagram went insane over pictures of Bollywood’s secret water-baby earlier this year, as la Sinha spent a blissful vacation in the South Asian island country. Just a week shy of Valentine’s Day, the newly svelte actress indulged in a rustic luxe vacay at her private water villa at the glamorous Coco Bodu Hithi Resort, near the Maldivian capital of Male. Her fans were immediately treated to a series of stunning selfies by unbelievably azure lagoons… and that was just for starters! No wilting lily, Sonakshi got into the thick of the action, with yoga sessions on the beach and windsurfing in the Indian Ocean. The adventurous star also spent her days snorkelling and snapping up underwater shots of the incredible reef (populated with turtles and manta rays), while following the Milky Way at night, her trusted camera phone in tow. With that sun-kissed face, toned body, tousled hair and free spirit, our very own Akira inspired a major case of wanderlust with her social media posts alone. As celebrity vacation spots go, Sonakshi certainly helped in putting Maldives on the map this year.
JET OFF LIKE AKSHAY KUMAR AND TWINKLE KHANNA TO THE FRENCH RIVIERA
Mrs. Funnybones, with her superstar mister, on the canvas of Europe’s most alluring celebrity playground also translates to envy-inducing pictures and starry excitement, both on-ground and mid-air! Along with their daughter Nitara, the A-list couple apparently spent a month exploring the utter gorgeousness of the Côte d’Azur, along the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. The impossibly chic family drove around Antibes, treating their combined Instagram followers to breezy pictures in picturesque locales. While Twinkle took time off for a girlie reunion with her BFF in Paris, shopping for macaroons and cookies, her famously daredevil better-half lunged at the opportunity to learn a new adventure sport — climbing ropes above water at one of the most scenic locations on earth. “It’s a top of the world feeling indeed,” Akshay tweeted. We concur.
