For months now, movie buffs have been anticipating the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus – Padmaavat (earlier titled Padmavati). The film after facing several challenges and difficulties by various fringe groups and even a ban from state government has finally hit the theaters.
Based on an epic poem of the same name, written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is a visual splendor that features outstanding performances by some of the finest actors of Bollywood.
Set in the 13th century, Padmaavat is an epic tale of love, war, honour and explores the story of Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), a free-spirited brave princess, who is married to the Rajput ruler of Mewar – Rawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor). They are living a perfect fairy-tale life until the arrival of Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh). After setting his eyes on the beautiful princess, Khilji wants to own her and decides to lay a siege on the Chitttor Fort in Rajasthan. How Padmavati and the other women of Chittor protect their honor forms the crux of the story.
Well, if you are still not convinced enough to hit the theaters to watch this film, here are five reasons that will entice you to catch this visual spectacle on-screen asap.
There is a reason why Sanjay Leela Bhansali is considered the king of opulence and grandeur. Padmaavat reaffirms Bhansali’s gift of using the film canvas to create mesmerizing visuals that haunts you long after you have left the cinema hall. Agreed, the story of the film isn’t anything new, but Padmaavat is visually stunning and is worth every penny spent. It is an incredible feast for the eyes that you don’t want to miss.
Well, we all know Deepika Padukone is a fabulous actor but to play the legendary queen – Rani Padmavati, who had performed Jauhar, is not a cake walk. However, Deepika not only does complete justice to the glory of this legendary queen but is also a force to reckon with throughout the film. She is looking simply stunning as the Rajput queen and has delivered one of her career-best performances.
Shahid Kapoor exudes regal charm as Rawal Ratan Singh. He is captivating and delivers a stellar performance.
One can safely say that Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of the barbaric Alauddin Khilji is one of the finest performances to come from Bollywood. Khilji is evil, dark, malicious, uncouth, slimy and flat-out bad, and Ranveer conveys every layer of the conniving Khilji with his tremendous performance. Ranveer is OUTSTANDING as Khilji.
Apart from the splendor, SLB is also gifted when it comes to music. His films always have some of the best scores and Padmaavat is no different. While the Ghoomar song looks lovely on the silver screen, another song that captivates is Khalbali, featuring the menacing Khilji. And the background score of the film is haunting.
So go ahead and catch this epic film in theaters near you.
