If You Missed This Star-Studded Awards Night, Here’s Everything You Need To Know
When Aamir Khan agrees to accept an award in person (which he almost never does), you know it’ll be a night to remember. And indeed it was, as GQ magazine hosted its annual ‘Men of The Year’ awards in Mumbai late last month. From Karan Johar to Ranveer Singh, Bollywood’s biggest stars came out to party, dressed in their Sunday best. American stand-up comedian Hasan Minhaj (who was chosen to perform at the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner not too long ago) flew in to accept his trophy for ‘International Man’ and had everyone in splits during his speech. Hasan’s family is originally from Uttar Pradesh, so India can claim bragging rights for his brilliance.
Several other bright and brilliant folk received awards on the night, including Zorawar Kalra for ‘Restaurateur of the Year,’ Sidharth Malhotra for ‘Most Stylish Man,’ Anushka Sharma for ‘Woman of the Year,’ Karan Johar for ‘Producer of the Year’ and Rajkummar Rao for ‘Actor of Year.’ We’ve long been fans of Rajkummar Rao, whose bold moves are redefining ‘cool’ in filmdom, but the night’s boldest move came from Irrfan Khan, who picked up a trophy for ‘Outstanding Achievement.’ Usually one to play it sartorially safe, Irrfan rocked an asymmetrical grey kurta, giving Ravneer’s cat-eye sunglasses a run for their money in the style stakes. On the subject of style, Manish Malhotra (Bollywood’s favourite fashion guru) bagged the award for ‘Designer of the Year,’ while his dear friend Sridevi took home a trophy for ‘Excellence in Acting.’
Other notable attendees included Esha Gupta and Mandira Bedi (both wearing spectacular evening gowns), Radhika Apte (super-chic in black), Ambit’s Ashok Wadhwa and his actress wife Reena, Shamita Shetty, Kalki Koechlin, theatre actor Jim Sarbh, the always eye-catching Malaika Arora and Kim Sharma (we loved her look), who hung out with designer Arjun Khanna and author Suhel Seth. Konkona Sen Sharma made an appearance as well (she has lost oodles of weight!) and chatted with actress Sayani Gupta and GQ’s ‘Artist of the Year’ Subodh Gupta.
The last time in recent history that an event was so well attended, was when Mukesh and Nita Ambani hosted a mega-bash in Mumbai. Get the details on that starry night right here!
