Since its inception in 2008, the VIVO Indian Premier League has been a perfect mélange of entertainment and cricket, bringing the glitterati from the world of cinema and cricketing legends together.

It is no surprise to catch glimpses of the spectacular B-Towners at the matches, enjoying the fast-paced game. In the past few years, apart from the love for the game, VIVO IPL has also become a perfect pitch for Bollywood players to build awareness and hype for their forthcoming films. Stars with upcoming releases are often spotted in the stands or the commentary booth for games, which are extremely popular among the masses.

Last year one saw the team of Dil Dhadakne Do, jumping and cheering for the players on the field while simultaneously promoting their film. Likewise, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone’s visit to the stadium was perfectly timed to coincide with their upcoming release Piku.

With a line of forthcoming films waiting to begin their innings at IPL, this year is going be no different.

Here’s a list of Bollywood films that are likely to make their presence felt, loud and clear, at IPL this year.

Azhar Vivo IPL 2016

Based on the life of one of the most controversial former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, and starring the serial kisser Emraan Hashmi, Azhar is sure to make its presence felt at the IPL matches this year. The film, which is slated to release on 13th May 2016 already has a strategic marketing plan to make an appearance at IPL 9. In fact, Emraan unveiled the first teaser of the film at the ‘Extraaa Innings’ pre-match sessions of the IPL finals last year. So it won’t be a surprise to spot Emraan Hashmi, with his pretty co-stars – Prachi Desai and Nargis Fakhri, and the cricketing legend himself — Mohammad Azharuddin in the stands this year. Going by the fact that, Azhar Bhai hails from Hyderabad, the film’s team perhaps would be rooting for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story
M S Dhoni at VIVO IPL 2016

This year at IPL, one is also certain to see a push for Fox Star Studios’ M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, an epic biopic of the Indian cricketer starring Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant was present at almost every match last year closely observing Dhoni’s game, to imbibe all his mannerisms to portray MSD with perfection on screen. Now that the film is ready and gearing up for promotions, it is obvious that the film will find its way to building hype at the ongoing IPL matches as well. Watch out for SSR cheer for Pune Supergiants, which is captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, this year.

Housefull 3

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala spoke about his tie up with Indian Premier League last year soon after the 8th season came to an end with Mumbai Indians claiming the finale trophy. And if rumors are to be believed Housefull 3, which stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Lisa Haydon, and Nargis Fakhri shall be promoted on a grand scale at IPL this year. Knowing the popularity of IPL amongst the film buffs and sports fanatics, Housefull 3’s marketing team has plans to promote the film extensively this season.

The biopic on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death, starring Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Richa Chadha is likely to create some stir at the IPL games this year. Be it at the ‘Extraaa Innings T20’ or in the stands, the stars of this film are surely going to be captured by the live camera, as they cheer for their favorite team and simultaneously promote their film.

Udta Punjab

The Shahid Kapoor starrer has already kick-started their promotional spree. And any wise marketing professional would know that no better place to gain more eyeballs than the IPL grounds. So don’t be surprised to spot the stars of Udta Punjab, a neo-noir film that deals with the sensitive topic of drug addiction amongst the youth in the state of Punjab, graces the IPL matches. The film that also stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Punjabi heartthrob Diljit Dosanjh is sure to catch the youth’s fancy at the VIVO IPL matches.
