Asli yaari comes in all shapes and sizes and indeed as an extension to all kinds of relationships. Onscreen, Amitabh Bachchan has been part of some iconic friendships — with the ‘Sholay’ combination of Jai and Veeru topping the list. In real life, Mr. Bachchan confesses he is privileged to have an unconditional friend: someone he shares his sporting interests with; whom he can chat with about music, film and fashion and someone who also shares his passion for cars.
Reports suggest Anil Ambani and Mr. Bachchan are fast friends, but is the industrialist the BFF Mr. Bachchan is referring to? Not quite. The honour belongs to Abhishek Bachchan, with whom the Big B spends his “most glorious moments.”
“When your son starts wearing your shoes, he stops being your son and starts being your friend,” Mr. Bachchan confesses, citing an old proverb. “When I sit with Abhishek and spend time with him, they are the most glorious moments. He is my friend first now, and a son later,” says the legend when asked about his real-life BFF.
At its core, what is ‘asli yaari’ — according to the actor? “The moment you start sharing personal points of view with another individual, there is a closeness that comes,” Mr. Bachchan opines. When you can “talk freely on any issue, crack jokes” and “just be one” with each other’s thoughts and opinions, that is true friendship. We couldn’t agree more.
