Most actors would give an arm and a leg to play the legendary James Bond, but Daniel Craig — who has essayed the role of the sexy secret agent for almost a decade now — seems decidedly disdainful about being in the hot seat. When asked whether he’d star in another Bond film after ‘Spectre,’ Craig recently told ‘Time Out’ magazine that he would rather “slash” his wrists than revisit the role.
In his defence, all manner of folk have suggested that Craig was only joking when he made the statement on-record in an interview. If that is true, well, we think dishy Daniel should rule out a career as a stand-up comedian — being disrespectful, even in jest, about the biggest gig in his acting career just doesn’t strike us as funny. (Of course he’s apparently laughing all the way to the bank as the highest paid Bond actor of all time).
Across the Atlantic, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actress Ellen Pompeo shares our view, but puts it more succinctly. When TV’s Meredith Grey read about Craig’s comment, she tweeted: “This dude needs a reality check.” Not the most eloquent response, but certainly on point.
For the man playing Bond — a character that is as bold as they come — the bold move most suited to this moment is a simple one: from now onwards, if you have nothing nice to say, simply say nothing!
