He’s the guy who will tell you that if you call a woman a “babe” on Tinder, you are less likely to get a date and more likely to get a slap across your face. A smart man with potential as a professional agony aunt, but that’s not what Daniel Fernandes does for a living. Without further ado, this is his story…
Just over five years ago, Daniel dumped a secure career in advertising to chase his comedy hobby full-time (here’s another stand-up star with a background in advertising). It may sound crazy to us toe-the-line types, but this stand-up comedian is laughing all the way to the bank, between packed gigs in Amsterdam and aamchi Mumbai. Ask Daniel to describe himself in a few words and his top three adjectives are ambitious, stubborn and restless. As it happens, they’re a perfect match to his career choice — where drive, pig-headedness and the need to evolve constantly are as essential as a keen sense of humour and good communication.
“I believe the next decade is going to be about alternative careers. For the first time in this country, we are witnessing so many young people taking up their passions and turning them into successful businesses. Comedy is at the helm of this trend,” says Daniel. He’s dead serious on this subject and even when he’s joking (professionally, that is), he picks serious social issues for a laugh. Quick to clarify that he is not a “social activist,” Daniel still takes pot-shots at politicians with amazing alacrity.
From his interesting world view and his tongue-in-cheek take on Bollywood, to his vishesh tippanis on life in general, there’s a lot one can learn from this Bombay-born comic. Catch him live on November 3, 2017, during a Black Dog Easy Evenings show at F Bar in Ludhiana for a laugh-out-loud night that is sure to lift your spirits! As don’t-miss-it events go, this one currently tops our list.
