While people plan their vacations, it is said that once you visit Italy and fall in love you will keep coming back for more. It's a small country in comparison to most, but there is so much to do. It is a country that overwhelms your senses making it impossible to visit only once. While people have their own reasons to visit Italy, whether to find love, stay in an old Italian villa or to shop for the latest fashion, these are our top reasons to visit this gorgeous country.
Italian food is delicious and contrary to popular belief, is not the same everywhere. Just like in India, different regions and towns have their own speciality. Rome has their famed thin crust pizza, Florence has her exquisite steak Florentine which is ONLY available in the city and can't be replicated anywhere else. Naples is the birth place of pizza and Venice is home to beautiful seafood and delicious risottos. Expect any trip to any part of Italy to include lots of wine, cheese and pasta.
Rome is the birth place of a massive historic empire. If you're a history buff, then Italy is great place to visit. Even if you aren't, you can't help but be mesermised by some of the gorgeous ancient sites like the Colosseum, The Pantheon, The Roman Forum, The Catacombs and more.
The Churches and The Duomo
While the architecture in all of Italy is gorgeous, you can't help but notice all these amazing churches and cathedrals. You can step inside any of these and marvel at them. One of the most breath taking cathedrals is The Duomo in Florence. Not only is it a sight to see but if you're feeling adventurous, you could climb to the top of the dome and witness the most stunning aerial view of all of Florence!
Just like in the movies, you can't miss the opportunity to have your very own gondola ride through the canals of Venice. The city is beautiful and one of the best attraction is that there are no vehicles, and if you need to travel, you do it by foot or by boat. Getting around in a water taxi is great but the romantic gondola is even better. One of the most Italian things to do!
One of the most amazing places to visit is St. Peter's Bascilica and the Vatican Museum. While Vatican city is like a country on its own within Rome, it is heavily guarded and you can't just stroll through. You can however visit the museum which houses some incredible art work, and of course visit the famous ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to witness some of the greatest paintings ever. It is an amazing experience to visit and worth every minute of your time there.
While Italian food and dessert is outstanding and worth every calorie, it is their own style of ice creams - the gelato that is absolutely worth travelling for! Italy can get extremely hot and nothing cools you down like some flavourful gelato. It's made with milk and not cream so there is no excuse to miss out on this delicious treat!
During the renaissance period Italy went through a phase of producing some of the world's most beautiful pieces of art. From sculptures like the statue of David, the paintings in the Uffizi gallery, The Vatican ceiling and plenty of other galleries around the country. In fact you don't even need to go to a gallery to see them. The cities are full of sculptures and fountains displaying works of art.
It is unlikely you will see the same in other countries except inside a museum.
