Whether he’s on horseback or in a helicopter, Britain’s Prince Harry has a need for speed. In February, he zoomed around the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex in a series of classic racing cars, including a 1964 two-series blue Aston Martin DB4, a black Lamborghini and a sleek red Jaguar. Ostensibly for charity, it was quite clear that Harry found this royal turn behind the wheel absolutely exhilarating. A month later, the young royal debuted his very own shiny new Audi 5S5 and, a few days ago, Harry proved his love for motorcars yet again.
As Lewis Hamilton raced to the world title in Abu Dhabi on November 23, Prince Harry was amongst the first to congratulate him. Taking to the pit radio, Harry said, “Lewis, thank you very much for not making the British public sweat. You are an absolute legend. Well done, mate.”
British Prime Minister David Cameron later added that Hamilton’s win marked “a great day for British motorsport,” but it was our man Harry who really celebrated the moment — even joining Hamilton and his girlfriend Nicole Scherzingerfor a post-Grand Prix shindig that made headlines around the world on Monday.
Lewis, who defeated his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg to clinch his second world title, waved the Union Jack as he drove around the Yas Marina circuit in a victory lap. Still, it was Harry — with his shared love for fast cars — who fuelled the after-party at Abu Dhabi’s Amber Lounge long after the Press had packed up for the night!
