From helicopter charters to indulgent estates, Harrods has long been known for being much more than one of the most indulgent stores in the world. And this month, they’re upping the ante. To mark the opening of the Salon de Parfum boutique at the London department store, British perfumer Clive Christian has created a special edition perfume that comes with an astounding £143,000 price tag.
While even a standard bottle of Christian’s fragrance is marketed as ‘the world’s most expensive perfume,’ that costs a mere £450 in comparison. So what makes this particular bottle so rare and valuable? Called the No1 Passant Guardant, it uses the perfume house’s signature crystal bottle and then adds oomph by covering it in hand-crafted, 24-carat gold lattice-work. Topped with a crown — like all of Clive Christian’s No1 fragrances — this one-of-a-kind bottle features a diamond-encrusted lid, inspired by the original 1872 design that paid homage to Queen Victoria. And the gold crown, embedded with flawless white diamonds, isn’t the only thing that glitters on the No1 Passant Guardant. A staggering 2,000 diamonds make it onto the bottle, including two yellow diamonds and a rare pink diamond that are placed within the elaborate lion motif on the front. With only 30 ml of the actual fragrance inside this bejewelled bottle, it seems the perfumer has fulfilled his brief “to create an iconic bottle as precious as a crown jewel,” for the opening of Harrods’ Salon de Parfum.
