“We’re proud to have been a part of life, culture and style in India for the last decade,” says the Tommy Hilfiger website, beneath a stunning ‘Hilfigers Love India’ crest, designed to commemorate the occasion. It’s a milestone the brand takes seriously, because Tommy Hilfiger himself jetted across the Atlantic to celebrate 10 years in India with a series of events across New Delhi and Mumbai recently.
‘The India Tour’ — as he christened it — included a guest lecture to National Institute of Fashion Technology students, hosting anniversary celebrations in New Delhi, attending the GQ India Men of the Year Awards in Mumbai and organising an in-store press event at Select Citywalk Mall with Bollywood beauty Sonam Kapoor.
With the statuesque Sonam by his side at the press event, Mr. Hilfiger unveiled two limited-edition designs to mark the occasion: a shawl for women and traditional ‘bandi’ (sleeveless bandhgala) for men. Both iconic Indian garments have been infused with the brand’s signature preppy spirit and inspired by a fusion of Americana heritage and Indian tradition. The shawl features a sophisticated white paisley jacquard on a navy-blue base, and reverses to reveal preppy red, white and blue stripes. An interlocking TH jacquard trim adds the Tommy twist! The suede bandi — available in both navy and beige — features signature details like contrast stitching, monogram buttons and a classic stripe lining.
