A spy is never out of the game, or so they say. This certainly seems true in the case of Pierce Brosnan, who continues to play the alluring action hero to aplomb, though he hung up his boots as James Bond in 2005. Along with his proverbial boots, Brosnan also bid adieu to his contract as brand ambassador for Omega’s terrific timepieces—making way for buff Bond, Daniel Craig.
A decade later, however, Pierce still sports a watch with unmatched finesse and has just bagged a big endorsement deal for one of the world’s tidiest tickers. If Omega excites you, Switzerland-based watch brand Speake-Marin should thrill connoisseurs. A boutique brand, it produces something in the neighbourhood of 500 watches per year — each described as “a serious, hand-finished timepiece of elegant beauty”.
While Pierce is slated to be the face of Speake-Marin for three years, the man behind the eponymous brand is equally exciting. Speake-Marin began his career in London in restoration, learning the trade from past masters. After moving to Switzerland, he worked with Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi, before setting up independently. Over the years, Speake-Marin has created highly unique, one-of-a-kind timepieces for connoisseurs and collectors — each bespoke piece with a special personal meaning of some sort. Now, having added Brosnan to their bandwagon, Speake-Marin is shaking things up. And we know Brosnan likes it shaken, not stirred.
