The ‘Mini Me’ marketing mantra: Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan
Brand owners, marketing gurus and magazine editors have long since endorsed the opinion that Bollywood sells. The folks at Barbie think so too, having unveiled a Katrina Kaif doll back in 2011. More recently, to coincide with the launch of Dhoom:3, the makers of the Barbie doll unveiled mini versions of both Katrina and Aamir Khan. Hollywood’s hottest films — the Twilight series, Pirates of the Caribbean and Hunger Games — have spawned collector dolls by Mattel too, but the Aamir and Kat Dhoom dolls mark the debut of the concept in India.
Being touted as “highly-detailed limited-edition Collector Dolls,” Mattel’s latest offerings are inspired by Bollywood icons Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif as ‘Sahir’ and ‘Aaliya’ in Dhoom: 3 respectively. Kat’s Barbie Collector Doll is an acrobat dancer (“glamour and style personified” apparently), dressed to impress in a dazzling silver and golden ensemble. Aamir’s doll, on the other hand, is a six-packed star: shirtless and tattooed in fancy faux leather pants. With their enclosed certificate of authenticity and autographed posters of the stars, the Rs. 1,999 tag per doll seems not too high a price to pay. Play with your pint-sized icons or preserve them for posterity, these cool collectibles are a great gift for any young fan of the film.
