If multiple wax figures at Madame Tussauds around the world, distinctions from the Middle East and our very own Padma Shri weren’t enough of an honour for Shah Rukh Khan, the inimitable actor is all set to receive another big pat on the back — courtesy the French government — at a ceremony in south Mumbai tonight.
Laurent Fabius, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development of France, will confer the insignia of the ‘Chevalierde la Légiond’Honneur’ (or National Order of the Legion of Honour) on Shah Rukh Khan at an investiture ceremony at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel’s Crystal Room tonight. The only other Indian actor to receive the same honour is veteran / legend Amitabh Bachchan; while Lata Mangeshkar, Satyajit Ray and Pandit Ravi Shankar have also been awarded this prestigious civilian honour in the past.
Bollywood’s reigning superstar may not have landed Naseeruddin Shah’s part in ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,’ but instead he gets to join a legion of extraordinary gentlemen in real life. And while Naseer can forever claim to be the fantastic Captain Nemo, Shah Rukh can boast of his ‘Chevalier de la Légiond Honneur’ and the title of ‘King’ Khan!
