Prince William and Duchess Catherine : It’s a boy!

At 4:24 p.m. British Summer Time yesterday (July 22), Prince William and Duchess Catherine became proud parents to a bonny baby boy. Weighing in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces, the couple’s firstborn will be third in line to the British throne — after grandpa Charles and dad William.

“It is an important moment in the life of our nation but, I suppose, above all it is a wonderful moment for a warm and loving couple who have got a brand new baby boy,” said British Prime Minister David Cameron.A gun salute and cannon blasts will welcome the baby in Britain, with congratulations already pouring in from around the world. In an official statement, United States President Barack Obama has said, “Michelle and I are so pleased to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the joyous occasion of the birth of their first child. We wish them all the happiness and blessings parenthood brings.”

Last week, the Queen had joked about how this royal baby has everyone waiting; with the Queen herself putting vacation plans on hold until the infant’s arrival. Now ensconced at Buckingham Palace, possibly awaiting the baby’s arrival, the Queen is said to be thrilled. Of course a final word on behalf of both proud parents comes from an ecstatic Prince William: “We could not be happier.”
