Movie night in Mumbai

Yesterday turned out to be quite a hot night at the movies for many of Mumbai’s movers and shakers.

On a weeknight — despite no premiere or party being hosted at PVR in Juhu — the cinema was chockfull of famous faces. Model-turned-actress Dipannita Sharma was there with some friends; while Sonam Kapoor’s skilled make-up artist of choice, Namrata Soni, was rushing to catch the 10:40 pm show of ‘Last Vegas.’ Of course, the biggest furore was over the presence of Baba Dewan (he’s known in the financial papers as Dheeraj Wadhawan) — who arrived with a coterie of attendants, including an imposing-looking clean-shaven white bodyguard. Not too many people recognised him (the construction millionaire keeps a relatively low profile), but his posse was impossible to ignore. Of course the darkness of the auditorium itself was the great leveller of haves and have-lots — and finally the biggest stars of the night were the legends on screen: Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline.
