Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green’s brush with Buddhism

Why did Gwyneth Paltrow name her daughter Apple, or Kim Kardashian name her first-born North West? Hollywood’s idea of ‘haute’ baby names is a mega-mystery to me, and while I grapple with unravelling the ones I’ve mentioned, here comes another curveball — courtesy actors Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green.

On February 12, the celebrity couple welcomed their second child into the world and proceeded shortly thereafter to name the baby boy ‘Bodhi Ransom Green.’ Bodhi, we Indians know, to be a term associated with Buddhism and, in a literal sense, it means awakened or enlightened. That’s nice enough. Then there’s the name Ransom. Apart from less than a handful of characters in popular literature named Ransom, there’s just one other well-known gent — a Ransom Eli Olds — whom folks may remember for being an American automotive industry pioneer. We very much doubt the Green baby is named after Mr. Olds, so there must be some other (bizarre) explanation. In the meantime, while we wait for the foxy Transformers star and her hubby to make sense of it all, we may well get used to the odd name. And, on the bright side, if they’d been inspired more by Kanye and Kim, they might have picked a colour for their baby’s first name: ‘Blue’ Green or ‘Red’ Green would have been odder still, no?
