John Abraham- High on Koke!

Don’t go getting the wrong idea. John Abraham is clean as a whistle. The subject of our story today is last night’s Indian Super League encounter between John’s NorthEast United FC and Sachin Tendulkar co-owned Kerala Blasters. Spaniard Koke struck at the fag-end of the first half and his one goal proved to be enough to triumph over Sachin’s ISL team — miraculously getting past Blasters goalie David James, who did well to keep other attempts at bay.

Of course the team was elated with their win in Guwahati, but it was co-owner John Abraham for whom the victory was sweetest. We’ve known the beefy actor for many, many years and can tell you he has been passionate about football long before it became a fad. When he was filming ‘DhanDhanaDhanGoal’ in 2006, he trained hard with former Southend United striker Andy Ansah and even now, as the NorthEast United team readies for fixture after fixture, John often trains alongside them.

“I am not going to sit with dark glasses in the stands because either I am training with the players or understanding the strategy,” says John, who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and get into the thick of it. And, on the subject of sleeves, we have to make mention of John’s team jersey last night — any more iron-boosting of those biceps and he’ll have to have a custom kit tailored!
