Is 2014 Oprah’s year to say ‘I do’?

Legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey is making news this week on account of rumours that she may finally marry her long-time lover Stedman Graham this year. Their relationship has lasted longer than most Hollywood marriages and Oprah has said in the past that it is precisely because they have stayed unmarried that they have managed to stay together for almost two decades. “He’s a traditional man and this is a very untraditional relationship,” says Oprah, who insists, “If you ever interviewed Stedman, he would tell you that had we married, we would not be together today.” “If I had the title ‘wife,’ I think there would be other expectations for what a wife is and what a wife does. First of all, you’ve got to come home sometimes,” Oprah has joked in the past, adding that she certainly doesn’t see herself as someone who would ever marry.

So what is behind the adorable and unshakable Stedman’s second bid to win Ms. Winfrey’s hand in marriage? Apparently, an “emotional” trip to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s funeral on December 15 is the catalyst. “It was a highly emotional journey for Oprah, who loved Mandela and everything he stood for. During this time of grief there was only one person in the world she turned to — her Stedman,” says an insider, adding: “It was a spiritual mission and Stedman held her close during the funeral service. He realised right then and there he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Oprah as a married couple.”

With Oprah’s 60th birthday only weeks away, Stedman now has the perfect platform for his proposal planned. The big question is, will Oprah finally agree?
