Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra have more than just a few films in common. When Hrithik’s car broke down in the middle of the night last week, the A-lister hopped into the nearest auto rickshaw and headed on home. He even posted a selfie on his Twitter page, using the experience to simultaneously promote ‘Bang Bang!,’ his upcoming film.
“Car bangbanged!,” he wrote, “Night time auto ride home! I love my city! Funny thing is d driver has still not recognised me!”
In the absence of his ‘Krrish’ superpowers, it’s off into the night in a black-and-yellow — and that’s something Hrithik’s ‘Krrish 3′ and ‘Agneepath’ co-star has done as well. When Priyanka’s car broke down some years ago, on her way to a press conference, the actress wasted no time in haling an auto to ensure that a room full of journos weren’t left endlessly awaiting her arrival. She was wearing an itty-bitty mini skirt, but the threat of a Marilyn Monroe moment didn’t stop her!
With the auto rickshaw being such a strong symbol of suburban Mumbai, it’s no wonder stars hop into the three-wheelers with regularity. Salman Khan has been known to jump into an auto on more than a few occasions, and an endless line of other actors like Kareena Kapoor, Sunny Leone and Emraan Hashmi have done the same, while promoting their films.
Now if only Nitin Gadkari, our incumbent Minister of Road Transport and Highways, were to hop a rickshaw and then perhaps deign to repair our roads! Ah, wishful thinking.
