‘Homeland’ star Damian Lewis has impressed the Queen!
If you are addicted to ‘Homeland’ and can’t get enough of Damian Lewis — who essays the amazing Nicholas Brody — you’re not alone. The British Empire seems to thinks he’s cool too, with his name appearing on the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours list, as a recipient of the much-coveted OBE.
The Order of the British Empire (OBE) recognises distinguished service to the arts and sciences and, while the London-born Lewis claims to be “very surprised” at making the list, he is thrilled to bits by the honour.
“I was very happy to accept,” says the 43-year-old ‘Homeland’ star, adding that his family (wife/actress Helen McCrory and two kids) were “delighted (too), when they stopped asking what it was for.” Sadly, neither Helen nor their tots will accompany Lewis to the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace — that honour goes to Damian’s dad. “I don’t think you ever stop trying to impress your parents and I hope they will be proud and enjoy being there with me to celebrate the honour,” he says.
With Dame Maggie Smith (who plays Professor Minerva McGonagall in the ‘Harry Potter’ series) and another Lewis namesake — the inimitable Daniel Day-Lewis — also receiving distinctions for their contribution to drama, Damian Lewishas certainly made the A-list. And if you don’t catch him on telly receiving this award, you can watch him on Seasons 4 of ‘Homeland,’ that will come to Indian viewers exclusively on Star World Premiere, concurrent to its broadcast in the US.
