Since making it to the Queen’s birthday honours list earlier this month, Angelina Jolie can add royal recognition to Hollywood stardom. Yet, the award-winning actress and humanitarian doesn’t think she matches up to her mum, Marcheline Bertrand. Sure, she raises six children with Brad Pitt — while starring in top-grossing movies and jetting across the globe to fight for human rights — but Angie says her mum did a better job than she could possibly do as a parent. “It’s hard to think I could be as good a mother as she was. Her whole life was motherhood,” Angie has said in a magazine interview recently, adding that her mum will always be her role model when it comes to motherhood.
Besides, playing mother to Maddox (12), Pax (10), Zahara (9), Shiloh (8) and five-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne often involves making big decisions about how to raise the Jolie-Pitt brood. With regard to their education, for instance, Angie confesses that she prefers to home-school her children, because she wants them to have “a bigger picture of life.”And what better way to teach your kids about life than to be a good role model for them? After all, only last week Angie spoke at a summit to end sexual violence, while vowing to keep campaigning forever. “I will work on this for as long as I am alive, for as long as ittakes… This sends a big message around the world. You see how women are treated as second-class citizens and abused. This is to say, ‘No, you can’t,’ and we will — in an organised fashion — come after you.” Don’t mess with this mum, people. She’s a fighter!
