Getting Closer- Sonam Kapoor

Did you know…? It has been years since the acting bug bit, but Sonam Kapoor still yearns to do other things related to filmmaking, such as writing a script. Direction, which used to be a fond desire – she even worked as an AD to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on BLACK – is out of the question because the pretty lass has discovered that she cannot manage people, which is mandatory for a director!

Despite being a star child, it was only at the age of 18-19 that she became conscious of her looks and of the need to do the basics like using kajal and waxing. She did manage to majorly whittle her weight down from 86 kg to the reedy slenderness she now flaunts, but Sonam is no gym rat. She instead believes in the more holistic approach of eating healthy, working out hard and yes, also skipping gym routine twice a week!

Sonam’s passion for vintage reflects in her sartorial and travel choices too. She is smitten by Rome, because of her craze for history, museums, architecture and all things antique. Her choice in fashion too centres on styles popular from the Fifties to the Eighties. Current trends appeal to her only when they have a touch of the vintage!

Sonam has come in for her share of flak for saying it as she sees it. In particular, her recent comments on ‘Koffee With Karan’ were panned by many for their political incorrectness. “Just because you look like, ordinary and you act loud doesn’t mean you’re a good actor… If you’re not good looking, you’re considered a good actor. That’s like rubbish… I’ve been considered as an icon in my 20s, when people like...after their 40s, like, after they die are considered as icons, I think it’s amazing,” she voiced out spontaneously. Perhaps she does have a point when she says that she may come across as blunt but that she is actually a private person and only those close to her understand her!

You will never hear Sonam discussing details about her love life but she is very clear on some points – such as never dating a married man because she knows what it feels like to have been cheated on. “Tacky,” is how she describes it. No girl should be put through that experience, she believes, which shakes your confidence in yourself even though it is the guy’s fault to begin with…
