From stand-in to star: Shiv Darshan

For those who haven’t been introduced to the new bo(d)y on the block, this beefy bloke is filmmaker Suneel Darshan’s son Shiv. While Daddy Darshan is well known for producing such films as Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love’ and Priyanka Chopra-Bipasha Basu starrer ‘Barsaat,’ Shiv will make his debut with a January 2014 release titled ‘Karle Pyaar Karle.’ Though he comes from a film family, Shiv says his career choice can be credited to Akshay Kumar and not to his father or uncle (Dharmesh Darshan).

“I never wanted to be an actor,” says Shiv, who was asked by his father to stand in for Akshay while shooting for ‘Talaash: The Hunt Begins...’ with Kareena Kapoor. “Akshay could not make it on the set as he was unwell,” Shiv recounts, “and so I played his part in one shot.” At the time, Darshan Jr. had long locks, which he had to cut for the scene, but the young actor really enjoyed the experience nonetheless. “That is when I realised how much fun it is to be an actor... so, in a way, I am an actor only because of Akshay Kumar.”

Well, if Shiv finds critical acclaim with his upcoming release, Akki can safely take some of the credit!
