David Beckham and ‘the skirt’ controversy!

In 1998, David Beckham stepped out with his fashionista wife Victoria, wearing a sarong that looked like he’d picked it out of her closet. He made headlines the next day, with ‘The Sun’ carrying a front-page story titled: ‘Beckham has got his Posh frock on’! The world joked about how Posh wears the pants in that relationship, while David literally wears the skirt. But Becks has guts and, 16 years later, he still feels like the fashion police got that one wrong.

Despite being universally mocked for that sartorial choice, Becks insists that “Sarongs are great.” Only days ago he told one interviewer: “Over the years, it’s not just myself, everybody looks back at old pictures of themselves and thinks, ‘I can’t believe I wore that, or I wish I hadn’t worn that, or what was I thinking?’ You make mistakes over the years or you wear things that were right at the time.” But on the subject of that infamous sarong, he says, “That’s one thing I never regret because I thought it looked great and I would still wear it now.”

In the case of this 39-year-old hunk, the world’s women agree that less is more (oooh, those Armani and H&M ads!), but the jury is still out on whether a skirt works. Still, with all this talk about sticking to his guns on that fateful fashion pick, we can at least give Becks credit for not skirting the issue!
