Serious TV addicts who woke up early this morning to catch the live telecast of the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards already know this. For the majority of others who didn’t, here’s an update. ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ took home a bunch of top honours. Sofia Vergara - looking sinfully sexy in a white Roberto Cavalli gown - was the star of the night for her sartorial style. Our favourite Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch, took home a trophy for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries,’ but didn’t attend in person to collect his award. More than a few Americans complained privately about giving away so many Emmys to British TV shows. That aside, Billy Crystal delivered a glowing tribute to his friend Robin Williams, who died on August 11, confessing: “I spent many happy hours with Robin onstage. The brilliance was astounding; the relentless energy was kind of thrilling. I used to think if I could just put a saddle on him and stay on for eight seconds I’d be all right. As genius as he was onstage, he was the greatest friend you could ever imagine: supportive, protective, loving. It’s very hard to talk about him in the past, because he was so present in all of our lives.” All in all, the awards didn’t just laud entertainment, they delivered it!
If you’d like to catch up on all the action, tune in for a repeat telecast at 8 p.m. tonight on Star World, Star World HD, Fox Crime and FX.
