Life through the Eyes of a Stand-Up Comic
Everyone has different perspectives on life, but those held by stand up comedians are more… well, unusual, than those of others. And they usually share it with the world boldly, without over-thinking, which is why they’re such good friends to have.
Here’s a sneak peek at what goes through stand-up comedians’ heads when they hear regular people engaging in so-called ‘normal’ conversations.
Regular people: I’m a cardiologist, I cut people’s hearts up for a living.
Stand up Comics: I’m a stand-up comedian, and I think my ex is an expert at cutting people’s hearts up too - you two should meet up!
Regular people: If I go up and talk to her, what if I fail miserably? She’s out of my league.
Stand up Comics: Let me go up and talk to her. She’s out of my league, but not out of the league my jokes play in!
Regular people: I hate politicians. They’re so corrupt, so loud, and they just don’t know how to behave during their rallies.
Stand up Comics: I hate politicians too, but I’d love to become one. Imagine having the chance to hold a mike in front of paid audiences with 20,000 people!
Regular people: I don’t need alcohol. I’m already drunk on love, and that makes the world go round.
Stand up Comics: Love does that? Well, congratulations, but I have news for you. Whiskey makes the world go round twice as fast.
Regular people: Oh, you live in a 4 bedroom villa? Nice!
Stand up Comics: Thanks for reminding me that you’re made of money while I’m struggling to find someone to sponsor my next gig.
We are different from stand-up comedians in one important way. We think of the perfect comeback, the one witty line that kills it, at 3 AM the next day. Stand-up comedians are spontaneous, they nail the moment right then and there, every single time. The Royal Challenge way!
