Ravi Rampaul's Game Changing Moment: RCB vs DD

Previous Next

A fascinating match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils saw the former prevail in a nail biting Super Over finish which saw the pendulum swinging both ways. In a game where the Royal Challengers Bangalore were in complete control up until the 15th over of the chase and should have been comfortable victors, saw some madcap moments which led to a sensational finish in the end

After being put into bat by the opponents, Delhi Daredevils got off to a brisk start with their openers looking in good nick and striking the ball well. Two quick wickets thereafter brought the scoring rate down considerably as the Royal Challengers’ bowlers kept getting wickets at regular intervals to put the brakes on the Delhi innings. A late flourish by the Delhi lower order saw them cross the 150-run mark and set the Royal Challengers a target of 153 to chase down to get their 4th successive win at home in this campaignp>

Royal Challengers lost both their openers early with just 26 runs added on the board. But their two men in form, captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers took complete control of the situation and built a solid partnership in the middle. Scoring at a rapid rate without taking too many undue risks, the Challengers were cruising along to a comfortable win with the visiting team almost on the brink of submission. But with 5 overs remaining and less than a run-a-ball to get with 8 wickets in hand, AB went for a suicidal run and ended up throwing his wicket away after some inspired piece of fielding from Morkel. From there onwards, the Royal Challengers hit the self destruct button and lost wickets in a heap to be left needing 12 off the last over with all their recognized batsmen back in the hut.

With all hope lost, the Royal Challengers’ fans had given up and were now just hoping for a divine intervention to save the game for them. That moment came when least expected; on the first ball of the final over from Irfan Pathan, Ravi Rampaul struck a six over deep extra cover to give a glimmer of hope for RCB’s comeback. This moment of magic was surely the “Game changing moment” which eventually got the Royal Challengers the win. They managed to take the game into the Super Over after the match ended in a tie and rounded off a cracking performance in the Super Over to go back to top of the table with 8 points and a bucketload of confidence.
