A stunning innings from ShikharDhawan guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a seven-wicket victory in their Pepsi IPL match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, their 6th win in 10 matches.
After Kumar Sangakkara lost the toss, the Sunriser bowlers came up with a superlative show and restricted the opposition to a modest total. After Ishant Sharma dismissed the top order, Amit Mishra kept the batsmen guessing with his variations. After the bowlers had restricted the opposition for a seemingly par score of 129, the Sunrisers batsmen were supposed to get the same treatment after the break.
Chasing a target of 130 to win, on a pitch where all other batsmen struggled to score freely, Dhawan pushed the cruise button to achieve the target for Sunrisers in 18 overs. It was the fourth consecutive win for Sunrisers on their home turf and now the Hyderabad franchise have 12 points from 10 matches.
However, ShikharDhawan seemed to be batting on a completely different pitch as he timed the ball perfectly to all parts of the ground. When the big-hitters of the opposition struggled to score at a run-a-ball pace, Dhawan registered the highest strike-rate in the match and finished with almost double the score of the next-best scorer in the match. ShikharDhawan brought up his second unbeaten half century while HanumaVihari gave him able support with a sensible knock of 25. The pair added 74 runs for the third wicket ensuring the victory on a slow-track.
On a pitch where scoring was tough, ShikharDhawan ran away with the match. His innings of 73 off 55 balls was the game changing moment of the match, which completely demolished the opposition.
